The
Bluhende Barock (or Blooming Baroque) which is part of the Residenzschloss, in
Luwigsburg, in the vicinity of Stuttgart, arranges one large area of the park
to permanently create a Fairy-Tale garden for children. And each year from end
September to early November, the entire garden showcases all the varities of
pumpkins from around the world. It's not just the brilliant colours or sizes of
pumpkins that fascinate visitors, children and adults, but the way the
gardeners skilfully organize them and carefully display them. Pumpkins become
protagonists in the history of mankind and especially that of the North
America. The whole garden is a live history book, fun to read and easy to
remember.
These photos constitute a non-negligible example of how the German educate
their children and entertain adults...
Right at the main entrance to the Residenzschloss, there the pumpkins not only
attract attention but also inspire tenderness.
Here and there in the park, explanatory panels guide the sight, one at a time.
Or
some others like these.
And more pumpkins in the landscape...
The
Hupffort, above, is something that makes me ponder... In my younger days I used
to wonder what it was like to play, sit, lie down, sleep (and ultimately as
seen in many films from Western such as in one of James Bond, make love) in the
piles of straw. Our parents had never encouraged and indeed kept us away from
whatever could make us dirty, even from paints. Most children of our
generation, raised and growing up in the limit of one's own district in the
capital of Bangkok, we simply didn't have any chance to get dirty, not in any playground,
not around our habitation, not in any school. The most untidy we could be was when
we played sport and perspired. Sport is too big a term to call a 30-minute
physical exercice a week. And the only time we could be closest to the earth
was on the beach. Still very rarely.
I didn't have any memory of playing with
sand on the beach only that of bathing in the sea. It must not impress me at
all. Considering my childhood in detail, I was so lucky not to become
physically disabled as much as ethically retarded. The result of such a
confined childhood, applicable to Thais living in Bangkok in general, is: Thai
citydwellers, children or adults, เหยียบขี้ไก่ไม่ฝ่อ (literally to tread on-chicken's droppings -not-successful. This of course implies barefoot and
finally means something like "to be foppish"). We grew up minutely
dandified. We proudly believed that was the best to be.(And we really were the
cream of our society. Thank Dad! Thank Mom!). We naturally could not conceive
any joy in the country lifestyle. We ended up by underestimating the importance
and the value of rural life. Others, in extreme cases, despise countrymen, etc.
A BIG mistake and with it a long chain of consequences. Not many people, of the
past (and present) generations, really realize or admit that something is
radically wrong in our value system. Education modifies our concept of rural
life, of nature and environment. We learn to appreciate simple things, to
respect people from all walks of life, to take pleasure in nature. Many visit
the countryside, travel to every corner - north, east, south or west, buy local
products at low prices and enjoy themselves.. d'un air digne des
aristocrates - that of พระยาน้อยชมตลาด. It goes without
saying that most Thai ladies will certainly remain neat and tidy from top to
toe till the last public appearance on their dead bed.
We have another saying
(Literally
chicken are beautiful due to their feathers, men to their clothing).
Chicken again! The culture of appearance is the top priority, no matter what!
This is also true for many many countries, eastern or western. It is a
multi-million business.
Now that the bird-flu is in the air and the mad-cow disease around the corner,
we are definitely condemned to But frankly, the comparison is
also too extreme, isn't it? End of parentheses !
During the Halloween season, pumpkin is the star on the menu of the park. I love pumpkins. They are delicious! Different varieties are there for sale, at a very low price... and recipes are cordially exchanged, at no cost.
Here a display or a decoration...
All over the Fairy-Tale garden, there are special constructions related,
each, to a story, a legend, a tale...
Many of them I have no idea about...
Below, is said to be in the story of Pinocchio...
a biscuit-house...deluding children...
Attention! a witch is hiding, watching.
A tower ...
At the spiral staircase of the tower, painted glass-windows decorate the wall
and depict scenes of a certain tale familiar to German, and I suppose, to all
European kids... Parents bring their children in and together they listen to
the story at each stop. The telling voice only starts when someone is in front
of the glass-painting which then lights up automatically. I just put here two
examples of such painting.
A little girl, German, showed this to me and I got the picture...
Will it work if I shout a Thai word? I didn't have the chance to check.
There is definitely a whole lot more for children... The one below is just a
still lifeless pond but as soon as a child runs in and sits, water rises and
the chair is raised higher and higher while fountains spurt out and smiles bloom
on faces. This is an example of the German know-how. We Thais can have our orange day, any fruit or vegetable day, like the Spanish who have their tomato day, etc. A new way to learn and to teach...
